Transforming PD Symptoms withRed Light Therapy

I'm thrilled to share a transformative journey I embarked on over the last three months. As a woman battling Parkinson's Disease (PD), I've faced various challenges, but my recent experience with the SYMBX PDCare Laser and Neuro Helmet has opened a new chapter in managing my symptoms. Throughout my entire 9 year journey with PD I have never given up in my search to discover new healing modalities.

Three months ago, I was fortunate enough to get my hands on the lastest therapy treatment for PD symptoms; Red Light Therapy. As someone who has consistently struggled with symptom flare-ups, particularly around my menstrual cycle, I approached this opportunity with cautious optimism.

I began a protocol of using the Nuero Helmet 3 days a week, followed by the PDCare Laser focusing on specific points on my abdomen and vagus nerve.

Understanding the Science: Insights from SYMBYX

According to the SYMBYX website, their photobiomodulation therapy, which involves super-pulsed, near-infrared light, offers multiple benefits for Parkinson's patients. It stimulates cellular energy production (ATP), reduces pain and inflammation, encourages metabolism of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) like butyrate, promotes dopamine signaling, strengthens the gut-brain connection, and improves gut lining integrity, reducing issues related to "leaky gut."

Some people will experience many benefits and others may notice improvements in only one symptom, such as improved energy. Wide-range benefits are cited by users after 10-12 weeks of SYMBYX light therapy:

  • motor improvements

  • better sleep

  • improved mood

  • increased energy

  • reduced muscle pain

  • and/or a returned sense of smell

A Turning Point

By the second month of using the red light therapy treatment, I observed a significant reduction in my dyskinesia and apathy allowing me to sustain my energy for longer periods.

During my peak points of my cycle where I feel my best (usually around my follicular, leading up to ovulation) I felt motivated enough to pick up my guitar and strum some cords for a good hour. The first time this happened was an amazing feeling as I hadn't played in a long time, something I've definitely been missing. It was a beautiful sunny day and spent the afternoon sitting on my porch singing and playing guitar. It felt so good to be able to do that!

Normally, my symptoms and med side effects drastically increase the last three days of my cycle (Days 25-28). I can hardly get out of bed and if I do the dyskinesia is so bad that I am like a bull in a china shop.

“Entering the third month, I didn’t even notice any of the usual symptoms leading up to menstruation, I also found a reduction in bleeding, cramping, headaches and way more energy!”

Integrating Red Light Therapy into My Life

The SYMBX PD Laser has become an integral part of my weekly protocol. I've found that smoother transitions between my medications are possible when I make time for the PD laser in the morning. This practice significantly reduces my  'off periods' throughout the day.

Every other day, either in the morning or afternoon, I dedicate time to using the PD laser. I focus on six points on my abdomen, spending two minutes on each spot, and one point on the back of my neck. In the evening, after dinner, I use the Neuro Helmet.

Red Light Therapy
During Meditation

Incorporating the therapy into my meditation sessions has been exceptionally beneficial. It not only helps my body relax but also allows my mind to be still, enhancing the overall therapeutic experience.

Pro Tip: Mindful Usage

I've discovered that turning off my devices, not watching TV, closing my eyes, and focusing on the desired outcome enhances the effects of the therapy. Setting an intention that this device will improve my cellular structure helps in creating new neural networks in my brain, reinforcing the benefits of red light therapy.

A New Chapter in Parkinson's Management

This journey with red light therapy has been a game-changer for me. The improvements in my symptoms and overall quality of life are a testament to the potential of this innovative treatment. I hope sharing my experience will inspire others battling Parkinson's to explore new avenues of treatment and find their path to better health and well-being.

My Protocol
I use the SYMBX PDCare Laser and Neuro Helmet every other day. I find that I get the best results if I use the PDCare Laser in the morning and Neuro Helmet in the evening after dinner.
If I need a bit of a brain boost I like to use the helmet before going out for the evening with friends.

#HACK: If it's been one of those days where my body is ultra spastic and disconnected I like to put an elastic band around the PDCare Laser so that it stabilizes the light versus at me having to click in and hold it.
